Leland is a graduate of the Baylor University School of Law. He served as an associate editor of the Baylor Law Review and was selected by the faculty to represent Baylor in a national mock trial competition. He was awarded the Judge Claud Williams award for “Excellence in Advocacy “.
He appears in the Bar Register of Preeminent Attorneys and has received the highest possible ranking in both legal ability and ethics by Martindale Hubbell.
He has been board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization for over 30 Years. In recognition of his involvement in continuing legal education he has been named as a member of the Society of Legal Scholars. He has served as a faculty member of the State Bar’s Advanced Personal Injury Law Course.
He is a graduate of the Trial Lawyers College in Dubois, Wyoming having been given the privilege of studying under the great lawyer Gerry Spence. He was inducted as an Associate Member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He has received a citation from the State Bar of Texas for “his service to the lawyers of Texas” in recognition of his service as a member of the Texas Lawyers Assistance Program Committee for 17 years. He was chairman of the District 7 Grievance of the State Bar of Texas from 2018 to 2022
He had served on the Board of Directors of Arlington Charities and the Crowley – Sheeran Trust. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Epaphatha Foundation.
He is admitted to practice in all the courts of the State of Texas, the federal district courts for the Northern, Western and Eastern districts of Texas, the US 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Supreme Court and the United States Tax Court.
He is proud of having successfully handled a case that changed the way law enforcement officers across the State of Texas are compensated when they are injured in the line of duty.
He has historically represented only individual citizens and has never represented corporations or insurance companies.
He currently limits his practice to personal injury cases with an emphasis on truck wrecks and accidents involving logistics companies such as Amazon, FedEx and UPS. He has for many years tried civil cases against drunk drivers and cases involving serious injuries caused by unrestrained dogs.
